Feast of Football
The English Premier League Season has come to an
end but football in Hua Hin is thriving wih mens, ladies and childrens
teams al competing at barious levels.
Smor Prong with their excellent facilities are to the forefront of arranging
football tournaments in and around the area.
Pictured leftis the Red Dragons Team who played their first match at Smor
Prong School. The team played very well with excellent spirit, but ended
up with a heavy defeat, however, the lads all enjoyed their evening match
and the after game food and ice cream was well earned. The team trains
on Sunday afternoons at Palm Hills Sports Club, anyone interested in joining
can call Colin on 01-944 9372.
Pictured below is the “Thai Gers” ladies
team in red, and Smor Prong ladies in pink. The two teams played in front
of a large crowd, the spectators were thrilled with the level of skill
and commitment shown by the girls. The game was played in the true spirit
of football, the Thai Gers ended up as 2-1 winners, strangely and for
reasons known only to the referee the game went to penalties, which the
red team also won.
With the after match food and drink taking on more
importance than the score. Anyone interested in joining the ladies section
please call 01 865 3047.

History
The Ile Notre-Dame was the heart of Olympic action when Canada hosted
the 1976 games, and it also hosted the 1967 World Fair. Now it is famed
for its grand prix circuit, renamed Gilles Villeneuve to commemorate Canada’s
favourite racing driver who was tragically killed during practice for
the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix.
Gives the impression of being a permanent circuit
but it is constructed each year for the grand prix, adjacent to what was
the Olympic Rowing basin and close to the site of the 1967 World Fair.
It is part-permanent and part street circuit, with a mixture of slow and
fast corners plus some very quick barrier-lined straights. The track is
a big favourite with teams and drivers, even though it is traditionally
hard on cars.

History
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway circuit makes its Formula One debut as
host this year, the first U.S Grand Prix since 1991 in Phoenix which was
quoted by Martin Blundell as being “the biggest disaster ever.”
In a country where sport is dominated by football, basketball and the
like, nobody knew where it was, and as a consequence only a small number
of spectators attended.
However, Indianapolis Speedway officials believe
that this track will attract up to 150,000 spectators. This circuit has
a long spanning history, attracting thousands of American fans every week,
which is why the IMS believe that this is the perfect venue to attract
Americans to Formula One.
The Indianapolis track is in the record books for
holding the oldest automobile race in America, which opened in 1909 and
became host to the Indianapolis 500 in 1911, the latest winner being Kenny
Brack in 1999.
Former World champion, Jacques Villeneuve is no stranger to the Indy car
circuit, having won the Indy 500 and PPG Cup in 1995.
However, Formula One stars with high profiles such
as Villeneuve will provide something of a culture shock to the American
fans, with wages higher than some American football stars and team annual
budgets peaking at $100 million. Speedway will have to work very hard
to attract the same glamour that is attached to other F1 circuits.
