BANGKOK RUGBY SEVENS
Mr John Free, Sales & Marketing Director South
East Asia Region, Federal Mogul Corp., stated today that “Champion”
was very excited and enthusiastic about supporting the Bangkok Sevens
this year particularly on the Event’s 10th Anniversary.
In an expanded program, the Chairman of the Bangkok Sevens, Colonel David
Dufall is planning “Bangkok Rugby Week” which will incorporate
two major tournaments, a Guest Speaker Dinner and a Sydney first-grade
team, 15-a-side match-up with perhaps the Thai National side.
The Tournament with around 55 teams and 750 players will be played in
four Divisions with the Boys U/14s “Rugby Challenge” scheduled
for the Police Stadium on 23-24 October and the Men’s and Women’s
Sevens to be played on 29-30-31 October also at the Police Stadium. The
Veterans/Golden Oldies event will be held at the Bangkok Patana School
on 29th October.
The Guest Speaker Dinner on 28th October at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit
will feature Chris “Buddha” Handy, a renowned ex-Wallaby front-rower
with extensive experience as a player and manager in top-level rugby.
He was the ‘Official Host’ for last year’s Golden Oldies
Rugby Festival in Brisbane which featured over 4,000 guests and 175 teams
including the Bangkok Bangers from Thailand.
An indigenous Australian team, the Darwin Dingoes will also support the
overall program with coaching clinics in Bangkok and the North East in
the week before the Sevens. This program will be designed to reach children
at the ‘grass roots’ level of rugby development.
Colonel Dufall told the ‘Observer’ that teams from Australia,
New Zealand, Japan, the UK, Holland and France will be joining those from
Thailand and the S.E Asian Region in what is expected to be the biggest
Bangkok Sevens yet. He said that for the first time in the Tournament,
prize money will be offered and a ‘Tournament Dash for Cash’
will also be a highlight over the Sevens weekend.
For more information call Colonel Dufall on 02249 1834 or 01-822 5932.

FORMULA ONE for August
2004
August 15th Hungarian GP at Budapest
Course Details: Circuit length: 4.381 km
No of laps: 70, Race distance: 306.663 km
Lap record: Juan Pablo Montoya, Williams, 2003, 1min 22.095
History:
The Hungaroring held its first Grand Prix in 1986 and has since been ever-present
on the Formula One calendar.
The circuit is a modern complex and facilities are good. But overtaking
is difficult and this often turns the races into a procession.

August 29th Belgian GP at Spa Francorchamps
Course Details: Circuit length: 6.968 km
No of laps: 44, Race distance: 306.592 km
Lap record: Michael Schumacher (GER), Ferrari, 2002, 1min 49.758 secs
History
The Grand Prix circus returns to Spa after an absence of a year due to
failed negotiations over tobacco adverstising.
In every sense one of the classics on the calendar. A circuit both spectacular
and emotive; La Source hairpin, the downhill plunge to Eau Rouge, the
forest setting and the longest lap distance in the World Championship.
But the weather and size of the track means it can be problematic for
drivers. It can be dry in one place and wet in another. Some of the course
follows public roads, but the track boasts excellent facilities for teams,
officials and media. It has been the home of the Belgian Grand Prix on
a permanent basis since 1985.
