FORMULA ONE for October 2004

10th Japanese GP at Suzuka

Course Details: Circuit length: 5.807 km. No of laps: 53. Race distance: 307.573 km. Lap record: Michael Schumacher, Ferrari, 2002, 1min 31.317 secs

History: Grand Prix racing was first held in Japan in 1976 at the Fuji circuit - but switched to Suzuka a decade later.

Suzuka is unique to the world championship, with a figure of eight configuration. It has a reputation as a tough and technical track.

It has a lengthy lap, which is tough on tyres.

The circuit is well-run with excellent facilities.

Course Details: Circuit length: 4.309 km. No of laps: 71. Race distance: 305.909 km. Lap record: M Schumacher (GER), Ferrari, 2000, 1min 14.755 secs

History: Interlagos was the home of the Brazilian Grand Prix in the 70's - then an awesome test with fast banked left-hander and a length of 6.92km (4.3 miles). But after losing the event for a decade to Rio the circuit was reshaped. Now it has been modernised and shortened to 4.325km (2.684 miles). But it is still a demanding test for both car and driver.

Modern facilities for teams, media and medics have ensured its place on the calendar.
