Moving golf to a higher plane

As an avid golfer and I have always looked at the functional aspect of golf. Why is it that the ball didn't always go where I wanted it to? Despite lessons with a pro the ball still seemed to go where it wanted and not where it should have. When I was with the pro there was light at the end of the tunnel. He twisted me round and got my shoulders in the right position and everything fell into place but the next time I was on the course the same bad habits were returning. Knowing a thing or two about the body and how it works I would try to correct what I thought was going wrong by moving my posture and compensating for bad alignment. This sometimes worked but usually led to a different problem cropping up. So what was the answer? It dawned on me that the problem was more deep rooted than just trying to hit the ball right. The reason my swing was bad was because the body didn't want to perform the range of movement. It wanted to stop putting too much stress on areas of weakness and so moving in a plane that was no good for my golf but helpful to keep me pain free. This leads to dysfunction. To give you an example of dysfunction think of this. If your legs are tied together what are the chances of you running at maximum speed? Movement is limited and the capacity for you to stride out and reach full potential will be constrained. This is the same with golf. If the body doesn't function properly then the swing will be inhibited leading to more bad shots.

The body is a complex structure that is designed to get us through life in the most comfortable way possible. If there are changes to the structures then it will adapt to meet the new demands. This only leads to more pressure on another area in the body. The process goes on unnoticed until there is no longer room to maneuver and discomfort ensues. While most of us haven't got to the discomfort stage we will have some sort of imbalance that stops all the joints and muscles from working properly. This is where golf biomechanics can help you. By designing a programme of exercises, involving flexibility, mobility and strength, the body can rediscover good postural alignment and develop the right muscles to not only improve your golf but make everyday life a lot easier.

If you are looking to get a few extra yards on your drives, stop shanking or just get round the course without being in pain for the following 2/3 days see how I can help you.
