Play the GAIM

Let's look at what the banks will be doing with some of your money in November.

You know that they borrow your money and invest it in various risky ways but by spreading risk over many investment instruments they reduce their overall risk.

By borrowing money from many people they invest in ways the average individual cannot. They guarantee your capital and then pay you a small portion of their profits as interest. How much you get depends on interest rates

This product will have many banks jumping in with your money.

It fulfills all of their investment criteria. It has a low correlation of risk low correlation to traditional asset classes has 40 underlying funds with a 5% maximum allocation to each.

And best of all has a capital guarantee and a track record as good as it gets.

If you're a cautious investor you can cut out the middleman-your bank.

It is very important to state that this column never intends to be an advice arena where readers can take action on a recommendation made. The concept of regulated financial advice is ”know your client” and their financial objectives before making any recommendation or strategy. It goes without saying that recommending a particular product breaches that aspect of best advice.

This particular article is to show clients who, through a sense of insecurity or fear, that there is another way. Where there is a guarantee of capital probably much better than most banks can give then I never hesitate to make a general recommendation as I believe this is good for the extremely cautious investor and to add balance to a long only portfolio.

With those caveats let's look at the offering.

GAIM advisors Ltd is an alternative investments asset management group based in London and authorized and regulated by the FSA.

The GAIM investment process is unique, systematic, disciplined, highly transparent and has delivered attractive returns.

The basis of this guaranteed fund is the GAIM long/short fund. Space does not permit me to go into technical details of how it works but look at this simple comparison of the Long/Short fund.

From January 1995 to – July 2004

The SSB 10 year Treasury Benchmark returned 7.44% annually. Cumulative 98.83%.

The Morgan Stanley $ World Index .. 5.43% annually. Cumulative 66.02%

GAIM/ long/short strategy 15.83% annually. Cumulative 308.80%

Impressive figures indeed even though it should still be stated that past performance is

not a guide to future performances as prices can fall as well as rise. (Don't forget your capital guarantee.) What's more these outstanding performance figures, during turbulent times, are stated as net of all charges.

So let me explain the product offering. This is an Irish domiciled Fund approved by the Central Bank of Ireland . Its capital protected notes are issued by CDC IXIS Capital Markets core player in French and European capital markets carrying a AAA rating.

From Standard and Poors and Aaa from Moody's.

The minimum contribution is US$ or Euro10,000.

The fund is open for contribution from now until 10th. November with a probable ten day extension. Fund has an eight year life.

100% of the nominal amount is guaranteed at maturity and as already stated it is linked to the GAIM Long/Short fund (Annual Return 15.83%) Leverage can allow up to 150%.

I know the sluggish nature of the recovery process in equity markets and some people despair of ever getting back to where they started out. Many investors are scared by losses and don't know when to buy and don't really know how to invest. They then do nothing but leave money in the bank for the banks to take advantage of an opportunity like this. GAIM know already that the largest investors for this product will be investment banks.

This is one of the few opportunities the cautious investor has to partake in a potentially high return investment with what cautious investors want - secure guaranteed capital.

This time around you be the smart one.
