Roadhole suffered their first defeat of the season to newcomers Exalon on 30th Nov in the Cup Quarter Final. Well done Exalon. Fairways had also been in with a chance in the Cup matches but have dropped out of the League, leaving Funny Girl with a bye to the semis. Semi final matches take place on Jan 18th with Exalon at home to Johnnie Walkers and Jungle Juice at home to Funny Girl. The exit of Fairways has also changed the top 16 individual players rankings, from which ex Fairways players are now of course disqualified. On (FG) is well ahead in the individuals with a total of 49 tons and closes. Next is Jaew with a total of 40. Henning (FG) Noi (JB) Simon (RH) Johnnie (JW) and Barry (RH) all lag behind the ladies with points in the 30's, but there is still plenty of time for an outsider to pull through. The Mickey Mouse legs are not popular this season with some teams deciding the leg on a 3 dart throw or a toss of the coin. The whole format of matches does need to be reviewed before Season 4 with the agreement of all team captains, but for the time being we are stuck with the existing format which cannot be changed half way through the season. Teams are asked to please continue with Micky Mouse legs. However if one team refuses to play it the point will be awarded to the opposing team. Please annotate both score sheets clearly with the decision. Any score sheets without a clear note of the Micky Mouse leg decision signed by both captains will invalidate the point for that leg. Hua Hin Pool LeaguesAbout a third of the way through the season now and the two divisions are shaping up very differently. Division 1 is very tight with only two points separating the leaders London Lounge from 6th placed Jungle Juice 2, and the chasing pack also includes Billy's Bar and Lips who have a game in hand on the others. Division 2 has U-Turn currently holding a three point lead over 2nd placed Nid's Place, and with a game in hand over them. Road Hole, the Ship and Fairways all have games in hand on the top four however. Jungle Juice 1 are still searching for their first point but by all accounts have been unlucky, and will surely break their duck in the coming weeks. The Cup reached the quarter finals stage, and at time of writing three teams had progressed to the semi-finals – Octopussy, Rose Bar and P & P, with the final place to be one of Rainbow or Sawan. Meanwhile the Shield tournament for those already knocked out of the Cup, got underway – by this time in January we should know the quarter finalists, as well as who will be contesting the Cup Final. In the individual player standings there is likely to be major changes as some players have left Hua Hin and others are constantly arriving, but at present the clear leader is Kieren from the Ship. The top 16 players at the end of the season, based on results in singles games in the league, will be invited to take part in an end of season competition. This has been designed as a 2 hour race to test both individual and team. So what is endurance kart racing? Quite simply it will be a 2 hour race between a set number of teams, and at the end of 2 hours the team with the most laps wins. A team can be made up of 3 to 6 people, JWS recommend 4 or 5. Over 2 hours each team will need to change drivers a minimum of 7 times, this cancels out any teams who have less drivers or want to drive for long stints to gain advantage. At what intervals driver changes happen is up to each individual team. In addition the kart will need to be refueled, here team tactics come into play, as each team will decide when they want fuel, however the fueling will only be carried out by the trained JWS Motorsport pit staff. The karts used will be new 13hp karts with Honda 390cc engines. In these karts a lap of 700m circuit can be covered in 38 seconds. This is an average speed of 65 kph with top speeds around 90 kph. Each team's laps and average speed is recorded via race management computer lap timing system including average speeds and available as print out to the teams. This F1 style racing does have rules and there will be penalties such as a 30 second stop in the pits for such activities as aggressive contact driving, advantage by contact, overtaking under yellow flags or ignoring yellow flags. The price is only 2,700 Baht per team which represents fantastic value for money. The schedule for Sunday 23rd January is as follows: driver sign on 3.30 to 4 pm, driver briefing 4 pm, practice session 4.15 to 4.35 pm, qualifying 4.35 to 4.45 pm. Race starts 5 pm. Race finish 7 pm. Winners presentation 7.15 pm. To enter this race please contact Joe on 032 547 199 or 06 5638335. Hua Hin Bridge ClubThe Hua Hin Bridge Club's season started in October and has so far been a great success. New players have joined and the number of tables had to be increased, which is clearly a good sign as to the future of bridge in Hua Hin. Expert and novice players of all nationalities are welcome to the club based at Star and Ice Coffee in Amnuyasin Road , near Robert's Bakery. Play starts at 4pm each Sunday. |
