Fit for Golf

By looking at the golfers that I play with it is obvious that with a bit more rotation (twisting) in the back their game could be improved. Going back to basics is essential if the body is to function properly and respond to our requests for it; getting in line to strike the ball straight. Increasing rotational flexibility in the trunk is the most important thing for the average golfer. Here is a simple technique that will help the body rotate further and also make you wonder why you couldn't move that far before.

Stand up straight not hunched forward, yes you do hunch! From here point your right arm, shoulder height, out in front. Keep the hips pointing forward. Making sure the hips don't move, bring your straight arm round as far behind you as you can. Turn shoulders and head also. When you have gone as far as is comfortably possible then remember the spot the hand points to. Do the same on the other side remembering the spot on the left.

Now the fun begins. Bring your right arm up to shoulder height with the finger pointing out in front. Keep the eyes to the front. Bring your arm around as you did to mark the end of range of rotation but this time keep looking at the finger. Remember to keep the hips pointing to the front also. Go as far as you can but you must still be able to see the finger and the eyes must look straight ahead. Repeat 10 times.

Next is the same movement but the eyes have to continue to look to the right. 10 times. Don't move the eyes or hips!

Lastly it is the same movement but the eyes look to the left continually. Hips remain still. This is not easy.

When you have completed 10 of those then you can try the test to see how far you can rotate now. There should be a marked increase in the range of movement.

How has this happened? Well it is all to do with convincing the brain that it can turn further than it is used to. Fascinated by this? Well contact me and I will get your body to function how it should for golf and everyday life.

LOCAL EXPATS SHINE AT ASIAN PGA TOUR QUALIFING IN MALAYSIA

Hua Hin based Corey Harris won the Asian Tour Qualifying School Finals in Malaysia in January, while long term resident John Wither also secured playing rights on the tour with a top 25 finish.  Corey shot rounds of 64, 68, 69 and 72 to at Palm Resort Golf and Country Club's Cempaka Course to top the class with his four-day total of 15-under-par 273. Both golfers were up against the tough competition of over 500 golfers from around the globe playing for only 40 spots.  Worthy achievments from both to make Hua Hin residents very proud of them and we wish them both the best of luck in the coming season, along with our two stalwarts Simon Yates and Greg Hanrahan.  Greg, incidentally, secured full playing rights to the lucrative Japanese Tour in December but will also play his trade on The Asian Tour at the same time.
