Fit for Golf
For most golfers there is a time when you will have a lie that is not flat. For example you hit one to off of the fairway and end up with a shot played with one foot higher than the other. This is a tough position to play from. What can happen is you lose your balance and the stroke is a disaster. By improving your balance this can be helped.
The following exercises will not only help your golf but keep you from harm in the things you do daily, like stepping off of a curb or trying to stay upright on Hua Hin's cracked pavements! Just keep in mind that you will be using muscles and nerves that may not have had much use for a while. Don't overdo the exercises otherwise you may experience discomfort after them or while walking.
Firstly all you do is stand on one foot with the other one off of the ground. This sounds simple but for some of you it will be a challenge. Try this exercise with bare feet as well as with your golf shoes on. Why? Because the nerves and muscles will react differently. If you have trouble balancing this way, hold on to the wall until the body has adjusted and you can let go without falling over. As the exercise gets easier increase the intensity by bouncing a ball or to make it really tough, try closing your eyes. Open your eyes if you feel you are toppling over. I don't want any bills for broken household items! One side maybe easier than the other so focus on the weaker side but work both.
To take your balance to the next level some equipment will be needed. For those of you who go to a gym with Swiss balls, get on them. Also wobble boards are a great way to develop inner abdominal strength as well as improving balance. If the the stuff just described sounds as though it is from another language then contact me and I will be happy to work on your balance and make your golf easier.
