Hua Hin Pool League

Almost at the half way stage now and the two divisions are continuing as before, with Division 1 getting tighter with each match played, while Division 2 sees U-Turn apparently romping away with it. Almost any team in Division 1 could still win the title with only 10 points separating top from bottom, although realistically it is likely to be one of the current top 7 as only 4 points covers those teams. London lounge do have a much better points and racks difference though, so they are still in the best position. If things carry on as they are in Division 2 then U-Turn will be declared champions long before the season ends, and it looks as though all the other teams are fighting for second place, with the Ship, Sawan, Nid's Place and Road Hole the most likely candidates.

The top players table has seen some big changes, except at the very top where Kieren from the Ship and Peter from U-Turn are neck and neck. Next month is likely to see some more significant changes further down the table as the title races hot up.The top 16 players at the end of the season, based on results in singles games in the league, will be invited to take part in an end of season competition. A player must have played a minimum of 10 singles games to qualify.

In the knockout competitions the Cup finalists are now known, and P & P will play Octopussy on 4 th May 2005 (venue to be announced later). In the Shield it is now down to the last 8, and by this time next month we will know who the semi-finalists are.

Practice makes perfect for Hua Hin Today's Endurance Team

Sunday 23rd of January saw the first in what is sure to be a very popular addition to the Hua Hin entertainment scene, Endurance Racing. For those who love speed and to be part of a team, this type of event is just the thing.

Eight teams took part in the race held at JWS Motorsport's Go Kart Track, the circuit is opposite Hua Hin Airport , Joe and Wendy Smith, the new owners have made huge improvements both on and off the track, offering many more events, of which this 2 hour endurance race is just one.

Each team must make at least 7 changes of driver, and keep an eye open on the fuel tank and decide when to fill up. There are other safety regulations to be aware of, so team tactics are important.

The deserved winners were Hua Hin Today, who had practiced more than any ot the other teams taking part, and had worked out a race plan, which enabled them to run out comfortable winners.

Malee, a team from Pranburi, came second, four laps behind Hua Hin Today, very closely followed by the Observer team. Willies Beer Garden , Johnnie Walker's, Addrenaline Pub, all raced well, Somtawin School and Marriott Hotel who had the least experience held up the rear.

All in all it was an excellent evening's fun.

Following the success of this event, JWS have launched the JWS Challenge 05, a series of monthly 2 hour endurance races, starting on 20th February and finishing on 18th September, each race winner will be awarded a trophy and points to determine the overall winner.

Congratulations to Hua Hin Today, and all the teams who tried so hard to keep up with them.

A special word of praise should go to the pit crew who had the arduous task of getting the karts back on the track after a spin.

Events at the track:

Monday and Friday: 5pm JWS over 16 years old, individual races, 10 practice laps, 20 lap race. 700 Baht.

Tuesday: 5pm - 6pm Remote car club.

Wednesday: 4.30-5.30pm After School Club, special rates for children.

Saturday: Twice a month BBQ night. Racing with best quality food.
