This month's sports news.

JWS MOTORSPORT

Hua Hin is a regular location for production companies to film television programmes and movies, and again JWS Motorsport have been involved. Wannado Co. Ltd./Club F are creating a fashion VCD for national distribution before the end of the year, and the versatility of the kart circuit proved to be a successful ambassador for the town. This was a particular highlight for Joe since he arrived in Thailand, as the producer is a previous Miss Thailand , Lukgade. Her colleagues were filmed driving the karts and posing on the bridge and start/finish line. The outfits were seductively skimpy, and a great day was had by everyone!

The season finished in a playing sense with the Top 16 finals over two weeks, culminating in the last 8 being involved in a knockout competition at All Bar Won (soon to be renamed Sugar Cane). Some very impressive matches, all played over a best of seven racks, ended up with Danny from Club 99 beating Mark from Road Hole in the final which went right to the wire. The final event was held at Nid's Place when all the winners and runners up received their trophies and acknowledgement from a good crowd. Photos of the event are shown below.

The new 8-Ball season had not started at the time of going to press, but was scheduled to begin on 22nd June, with an increased number of teams yet again, this time 24. News and updates will be available in the August edition.

Hua Hin Hash House Harriers

June the 18 th went down in history as the day the United States declared war against Britain in 1812, Napoleon was defeated in the battle of Waterloo in 1815, Amelia Earhart became the first female pilot to fly across the Atlantic in 1928, Keith Twitchell's mom lost a lot of excess weight in 1936, Paul McCartney was born in 1942, and in 2005 the Hua Hin Hash House Harriers (H2H3) hosted hashers from Chiang Mai, Pattaya, and Bangkok. Also participating in the run was Luc Masschelein from Belgium . A current resident of Hua Hin, Luc ‘ran' the course in a specially designed wheel chair in which he has completed several marathons in as fast as one hour and twenty four minutes. Paralyzed from the waist down for the last 24 years, Luc competes in marathons for the benefit of charities such as Wheels of Hope and the R.I.C.D.

June 18 th also saw the return of one of the founding members of the H2H3 five years ago next month, Tom Crowley, who is currently working with Father Joe Maier of the Human Development Foundation, Mercy Centre, which works to “help the children and communities of the many slums of Bangkok . Together with our neighbors in the slums we create simple-but-progressive solutions that touch the lives of thousands of the poor every day. We build and operate schools, improve family health and welfare, protect street children's rights, combat the AIDS crisis, respond to daily emergencies, and offer shelter to orphans, to street children, and to children and adults with AIDS - always together, hand in hand and heart to heart with the people we serve.”

One of our own hashers celebrated his 69 th birthday but declined to demonstrate the significance of the special day for the benefit of ‘the hash' but was called into the circle after the run for a well deserved down down. Though still running hard, Keith mentioned that if he had known that he was going to be above ground so long he would have taken better care of himself.

The June 18 th event of the H2H3 was run at the reservoir just off Chom Phol road about midway between Hua Hin and Cha Am. The trail was set by Onefor and Ballbanger. Scheduled to run at 5:pm the run got off to a slow start as the gang awaited the arrival of hashers from Chiang Mai who were holed up in a bar in Hua Hin waiting for the rain to stop which was drenching the hashers at the rapidly filling reservoir. When the rain quit a few minutes after five, Chiang Mai arrived and the run was on through the soggy trails that run through the woods around the dam. Though some of the flour used to mark the trail had been washed away in the downpour earlier, not a single hasher was lost and all made it back to the car park before the beer was consumed. More than 50 runners and walkers were present for the fun including hashers from Hua Hin and Cha Am, 13 from Chiang Mai, 3 from Pattaya and 4 from Bangkok and several virgin hashers from the local area. Included in the Pattaya list was one of Hua Hin's own, Andy Jones who returned for a run with us for the first time in more than a year.

At the circle after the run we welcomed all of our visitors, returnees, virgins and other newcomers and many were called into the circle for a down-down. Kob Tetley was called into the circle and finally christened with the hash name ‘Dragon Tail' as she declined to answer to ‘Dairy Queen'. Ballbanger, Grand Master of the H2H3 for the last couple of years made a motion that Slackbladder be given the crown from this day forward. The motion was seconded and the gavel was passed to Slackbladder. Slackbladder can be reached at 078522565 for anyone wanting information about the H2H3.

After the circle was finished (ran out of beer), the hashers left for the Chicken Coop in Cha Am and other watering holes in the area to rest, relax and have a bit more fun to finish off this memorable day in the history of the Hua Hin Hash House Harriers.

The Hua Hin Hash House Harriers runs twice monthly on Saturdays. For information about the H2H3, call Ballbanger, 047111055; Slackbladder, 078522565; Doug, 018283074. You may also e-mail Ballbanger at donaltetley@yahoo.com . Remember, if you have half a mind to join the hash, that's all you need.
