This month's sports news. Premier League October FixturesChelsea has dominated the English Premier League so far this season, which at time of going to press had a 100% record and had not conceded a goal. Key match ups in October are Liverpool taking on Chelsea at Anfield, which could see the Champions dropping their first points, while most entertaining match of the month could well be Manchester City against West Ham. There is also a couple of cracking local derbies this month, with Newcastle versus Sunderland and Spurs against Arsenal; all of these matches will be shown live on the Thai satellite channel UBC. We saw a welcome return of Vaughan Pope with a new team, Speed Demons, and Dr. Alan with two teams of teachers from Somtawin School (boys and girls). Jack from Willies Station brought together another team of visitors to Hua Hin named Mix Station. So, with 3 previous winning teams present and Wee Man Swingers returning to the challenge, the competition was close. From experience the teams who prepare the most, together with consistant lap times go on to win and now we are seeing more teams arriving much earlier to walk the circuit and discuss tactics. After practice and qualifying the karts were refueled and the race started at 5.10pm. During the first two karts experienced air in the fuel system and start was aborted whilst the karts were checked, everything was okay but the tension was fogging the pits. The race restarted at 5.20pm and within the first laps Webster team had recorded 3 lap times within 37 seconds. The pace was incredibly fast between Webster, Speed Demons and Wee Man Swingers. There was some bumping in the early stages as the fastest teams fought for an early lead and some black flag penalties were issued. The entry of the Somtawin 2 Team (the girls) was a very last minute decision (actually, they had only come to support the boys) yet throughout the race they showed consistency and great stamina for a trio of young ladies who had never driven before. As the afternoon quickly became evening the team's tactics were unfolding, some completed their driver changes early on, some waited until near the end and within the last 20 minutes the battle was on for first position. The lead changed 3 times in the final leg of the race. Wee Man Swingers dropped due to a driver change, Speed Demons were defending their position but in the last 2 minutes Webster grabbed their opportunity to overtake and took the lead for the last few laps and then took the chequered flag. The next race is scheduled for 30th October. Coming soon November an individual Championship will be launched for the high season duration, if you are interested please leave your contact details at the circuit. Lips now head League A after a fine run of results, while Mondo snatched top spot from Lewis's, although the latter have a game in hand. Further down League A Billy's Babes have impressed on the green (or blue, or red) baize having taken over the unenviable task of starting on zero points inherited from the defunct Valhalla team's place. Meanwhile the mid table battle is raging in League B with 5 points separating 7 teams from 3rd to 9th. Limelight Halex have achieved their first win in the last few weeks, so that means every team has points on the board. Cup matches also took place and the Shield will have got underway by the time the Observer is published. The Top 16 individuals is taking shape with no less than 13 different teams represented in the table by their best players. There is still plenty of time for this to change however as more and more players reach the qualifying point. The pool league has also recently gained a new sponsor – All In Hua Hin – who will no doubt be involved in providing some delicious food at some point! Of course it is all of these and more. To show however that the H2H3 makes a positive contribution, the photograph taken at the end of run No 51 on August 20th at Huay Sai Tai reservoir portrays a group of around 70 hashers, including some 40 or so from Bangkok . You will note the various shapes, condition and ages, some looking well knackered even after a refreshing few cold beers in the circle after the run. The run itself was hared by Stumbles from the Bangkok Hash having first received permission from the Hua Hin GM Slackbladder, who is always keen to see other idiots do the work. A feature of the run was the coincidence with the 60th birthdates of Ballbanger and Onefor, both back from so-called Visa Runs. Both were duly called into the circle for a beer down down, Onefor having a double for arriving late, claiming his watch was still set to some distant Asian time zone. Whilst both consider they have achieved something of note in reaching such a significant milestone, particularly Ballbanger having served Uncle Sam in several skirmishes around the globe, they are mere embryonic compared with 69 forever {69 of course} and Longron {71} who are still able to accelerate from zero to walking pace in 100 meters. Although the Bangkok group held up reasonably well on the run, they were no match for H2H3's Kiwi Bruce who completed the course in 38 minutes. No one ever knows if he takes any short cuts because nobody is fast enough to keep up with him. After the run however they showed their true prowess by a collective moony to Hash Flash, 69 forever, that unfortunately is not suitable for publication in this edition. Following the circle and beers, the hashers retired to the Suk Sabai Restaurant by the sea on Soi 51, where more beers were quaffed to wash down an excellent array of seafood. RUN No 52-3rd SEPTEMBER. Overcast skies greeted the hashers at the start of the 52nd run in Cha Am town centre. The run, set through the back streets and alleyways of the town, then out into the suburban scrubland and finally along the beach road, was hared by Sparky a local Cha Am businessman and would be pool player. Some 26 hashers including two students from the UK, recent Hua Hin resident Hollowlegs and partner from Phuket, along with usual motley assortment of locals gathered at the Chicken Coop for the misdirections given by the hares prior to the run. Hashers were advised to search carefully for the shredded paper trail markings, in some areas indistinguishable from dumped garbage and construction materials and to run faster than the local packs of scruffy hounds. Several checks {diversions} were encountered en route with the intention of slowing down the front-runners and allowing laggards to catch up. The walkers however were given the option of a short cut back to base to have first taste of the cold beer. 30 minutes into the run the grey skies did not disappoint, drenching the hashers, some enjoying the cool shower, others cursing the elements. All arrived safely and a little damp at base where Spiderlegs easily won the Miss Wet Tee Shirt competition, the prize being a beer down down for her brazen up front running. The usual repast was taken after the circle and verbal abuse of the hare who found himself entirely to blame for the weather conditions encountered.
