Fit for Golf
The fitness industry changes with every passing year. What was good last year is no longer seen as useful in the present. Fitness professionals are moving towards what is known as functional training. This is exercises that mimic actions that we do in everyday life as well as movements we are designed to do but have lost the capacity to perform. To elaborate on the previous statement, think of movements you do each day from reaching around to get the soap in the shower to lifting your golf clubs out of the back of the car. These are potentials for injury. By reproducing common ranges of movement in a controlled way and adding a little extra resistance the body will strengthen and be less susceptible to injury and more flexible as well.
For the following exercises you will need a piece of rubber similar to a bicycle inner tube. You can also purchase custom made bands that are ideal for this purpose. Firstly tie one end of the band to something immovable about 1 foot or 30 cm higher than your shoulder. Give yourself enough room to swing the arms across the body. Hold the end of the band just above the shoulder and draw it across the body diagonally down towards where your opposite trouser pocket is. Keep a slight bend in the elbow, as this will take the pressure off of the shoulder muscles. Return the end of the band to the starting position and repeat about 12 times. The last repetition should be 3 short of failure. As you move from one side to the other make sure everything moves; shoulders, arms, hips, legs and feet. The second exercise is from the ground to over the shoulder. Tie the band to something around knee height or lower. Start with the hand by the pocket and draw the band diagonally up and over the shoulder, not too high though. Make sure all the muscles are working; shoulders, arms, legs and feet. Work both sides not only the side you swing a golf club on. The idea of this movement is to replicate pulling something like a branch off of a tree. Something our ancestors would have had to do but we don't need to do now.
How will this help my golf you say? The movement from the top is similar to the downswing of a club and from the bottom similar to the backswing and follow through. That apart, the way the body is working will help with balance and keeping your posture right to make the club come into contact with the ball at the right time thus eliminating bad shots.
If these type of exercises appeal to you (and you don't have to be a golfer to improve your functionality) then contact Terry on 01-0096588 or see what is on offer on the www.fit-foregolf.com website.

Golf Sponsorship
JOHN WITHER SPONSORSHIP DEAL UPDATE
The latest sponsor to join the club is Sam Sheriff of Sira Sila Estates. More businesses have promised their support, but have yet to complete their sponsorship forms.
The latest series of events in which John played were the Taiwan Open, Taiwan Masters, Crowne Plaza Open Beijing, and the Bangkok Airways Open, played in Thailand at Koh Samui. Taiwan has been experiencing a number of typhoons in recent weeks, but John made the cut both weeks, finishing 1 under par in the Open, and in the Masters, where only 5 people finished under par, his score was spoilt by a last day 82, due to a severe migraine. He also succeeded in making it through in Beijing , the event being won by another Hua Hin Local – Pryad Marksaeng. And so to Koh Samui – a real brute of a course to walk – just ask any player or caddie! Unfortunately another migraine attack forced John to withdraw at the start of the second day. He now has a week to recover before traveling to India . On the 3rd November the tour comes back to Thailand , to St Andrews Hill (2000) Club in Rayong – not that far from Hua Hin for anyone interested in seeing the pros in action.
Hopefully more good news to follow next month.
Details of all these sponsors can be found on the website WWW.HuaHinHH.com, please visit it. Anyone interested in further details on sponsorship please contact Barry Moore at The Road Hole or by email to barrypm@hotmail.com.

Big thanks to REGAL Thailand Property for being the title sponsor and Muang Kaew Golf Course and their professional staff for making our first Major tournament possible. Consequently SAGA TAILOR TOUR hosted its biggest tournament with 95 players battling it out for 150,000 Baht . The course was in top condition with firm, smooth greens and some difficult pin positions, which with the strong winds was a great challenge for the players.
