Hua Hin Golf Society
AGM 2006
This was held at Lake View on January 24 th , preceded by a 2 Ball better ball tournament for members only, the result of which is below.
At the General meeting, which was hosted very well again by the staff of Lake View who presented an excellent buffet supper, the main point on the agenda was the election of three members of the committee for a two-year term. All three outgoing members put themselves up for re-election with one new candidate. The incumbents were all comfortably re-elected and the committee for the next year is:
Peter Gouldby Chairman (1 year)
Kevin Milke Vice Chairman and Handicap committee (2 years)
Bernard Morgan Captain and Handicap committee (2 years)
Mick Evans Secretary and Handicap committee (2 years)
Fritz Schroeder Member (1 year)
Robert Baker member and Handicap committee (1 year)
The meeting was well attended by sixty persons. There were no contentious issues and the whole thing took only one and a half hours.
We have another 35000 baht in the charity account and we are looking into several new projects in the local area.

Fit for Golf
There seem to be a lot of shoulder injuries about at the moment. So this month we will look at how the swing affects the shoulder and what exercises can be performed to stop injuries occurring. Without repeating myself too many times the reason the shoulder area is put under strain is because the other structures used while swinging a club are not functioning properly. If your back and hips won't move then the movement of the club has to come from somewhere, this is most likely to be the arms. What area is between your arms to the torso? Your shoulders. Not surprisingly the shoulder gets overloaded and pain ensues. But if you still are not prepared to loosen your body up to save the stress on the shoulders then here are some exercises that will strengthen the shoulder area and limit the chance of injury. The shoulder is designed to be very mobile but because of this the integrity of the joint is compromised. The muscles around it help to keep it stable.
The exercises here will strengthen the rotator cuff muscles and the shoulder blade area also. All you will need for this is a grocery item that weighs a kilo or two. If you feel you need more weight then small dumbbells are required up to 5 kg in weight.
The rotator cuff work is best performed lying on your side on a bench but your sofa will suffice. Support your head with a pillow. To make the explanation simple start by lying on your left side. Holding the weight in your right hand bend your right elbow to 90° with the top part of your arm running down the midline of the body. Keep the top part of the arm still and lift the weight. You should be turning the arm at the shoulder. Don't force the movement; there should be no discomfort. After repeating this about 10 times change hands. To get a better range of movement bring the left elbow slightly forward. This means lying on the arm you are working so make sure there is no discomfort in that shoulder. Once both arms have been exercised then turn over and repeat on the other side.
The shoulder blade area is known as the shoulder girdle. To strengthen this you need 2-5kgs of weight. Bags of rice maybe? Stand up straight and pull the belly button into the spine but keep the spine still. This will stop the back from overloading. Bend the knees a little and lean forward from the hips about 20°; you may have to bring the hips back a bit to balance. Straighten the arms but don't lock them out. To start the exercise, bring the elbows up keep the bottom part of the arm pointing to the ground. Lift the shoulder blades but don't shrug the shoulders. This will work the mid part of the back strengthening the shoulder girdle area. Drop the elbows down under control but again don't straighten out the arms. Repeat 10-15 times.
