Fit for Golf
Part two of the shoulder area will entail strengthening exercises for the muscles to help them avoid injury and overwork.
The neck muscles may be tight but they can also be weak which will not help the neck to function properly. A ball will be needed to push the head against. The Swiss ball is ideal but if one of those is not at hand then a beach ball will suffice. Make sure it is not inflated too much or too little. If the fingers are pushed into the ball they should be able to sink in about two inches. Stand facing a wall and place the ball on your forehead. Keep the body upright. To help with balance and posture pull the belly button to the spine but don't move the back. Then lightly move the head forward pushing into the ball. Hold for 10-20 seconds. Repeat 5 times. This process is to be repeated with the ball on the side of the head and the back of the head. Make sure that the head only is moving. Watch that the body doesn't sway.
When the chest muscles get tight the back muscles can over stretch. This causes discomfort as well as developing a bad posture. To overcome this the muscles at the back should be exercised. Firstly, stand with a good posture. This entails placing the feet hip width, toes pointing forward and toes and ankles in line. Not one foot in front of the other. Back straight and draw the belly button to the spine, not moving the back. Look straight ahead. Bend the elbow to 90o; keep the elbow to your side. Bring the hands out keeping the elbows to the side. Focus on bringing the shoulder blades together. Repeat 15 times The next back strengthening exercises needs a length of elastic band. There are purpose made bands available but a 5-foot piece of tyre inner tube will do. Tie the tube to something solid; alternatively wrap it around a post or tree, even. Stand facing the band attachment in the same posture as the last exercise, good neutral position. Holding each end of the band with arms outstretched pull the arms back and concentrate on bringing the shoulder blades together. Keep the elbows near to the side of the body as you draw the hands back. Repeat 10-15 times.
The above exercises will help to improve posture as well and developing the muscles needed to play golf. To get your back functioning better call Terry on 01-0096588 or find us at www.fit-foregolf.com

Butterfly Rock Golf Club
Another month passes and time to inform everyone of how things are. Membership is still increasing, but the restriction now is that any new members must be proposed and seconded by a member, and they must have a valid handicap certificate. That is not to say that if you are newcomer to the game and do not have a handicap you cannot join. Contact us and we will invite you to our events where you will play for a handicap card, but will not be part of the competition. When you have returned 3 cards we will assess for handicap, and when you reach the required level, then you may join. It may be that the initial 3 cards do not qualify, so it will be 3 more until you reach the required level. The website is fully operational, and shows fixtures, results of competitions, information for the coming week, and the Brian Reeve order of merit. The 2's pot is still running and is a rollover; pot now stands at 1500 Baht.
