Fit for Golf
A lot of the focus in these articles is keyed towards stretching. The technique that is prescribed gets you to contract a muscle while on stretch and then relax it to gain an increase in range of movement. This time we will change the way we stretch to get the body ready to play the game.
A lot of golfers will put a club behind their shoulders and twist the body to warm up. Nothing wrong with that. To make the mobilizing a bit more effective start with a small range of movement and build up the motion until you mimic your full swing. Once the movement is the full range of your swing repeat 5-10 times. Just to put it into perspective. When the club goes through its full range of movement the whole of the body has to work so don't just swing the shoulders.
The above will benefit the swinging of the club. For those of you who walk the course there are other movements you might want to work on before you embark on the round. Most courses will have the occasional hill on them. Walking up these hills can stretch the leg muscles and if they are too tight lead to a pulled muscle. To avoid this just swing the leg backwards and forwards. Hold onto something to keep your balance and don't try to push the end of range of movement too far. Bend the knee as you go forward and try to keep it straight as you go to the back of the body. Watch you don't arch the back too much as the leg goes behind the body. Repeat 10 times on each leg. This type of stretching can be used on all joints of the body. If you have tight arms or shoulders then try to increase the movement in them by going through the particular joint action that is affected. As previously stated don't try to go too far.
To get the nerves in the hands, arms and feet awakened try flicking out the hands and feet; imagine there is something stuck to the end of the fingers and toes and flick the hands and feet as if trying to shake the offending object off of the digits. This will get the nerves firing better, improving the control and sensitivity in the hands, arms and feet.
These are just some of the warm-up exercises that can be prescribed. To find out more about how to prepare for a round of golf contact Terry on 01-0096588 or look up the website www.fit-foregolf.com

Butterfly Rock Golf Club
Everyone is enjoying the mixture of events, and very much like the idea of getting away from the regular Stableford/Medal, and playing bogeys, bisque bogeys, multi-tee team games and scrambles. Membership is ever increasing and we are now up to the 40 mark, this means that we are two thirds full, as membership will cease at 60, it will then be a case of one leaves, one joins. Members put many suggestions forward, and we listen to them all, and act on them where necessary. The latest is a trip away, and it looks like our first away golf will be fairly local to Kanchanaburi, staying at Nichigo, look out for details, trip will probably be late October. The matchplay competition for the J&B Putter will commence October, all the details are on the entry form, and it will be up to the individuals to arrange their matches by a stipulated date, also in conjunction with CONGU recommendation it will be played off full handicap difference, with a limit of 18 shots.
We wish our Sec/Tres. good wishes on his coming operation in UK , a speedy recovery and we hope to be seeing Paul soon. Our initial 6 months has been very interesting, and we have managed to introduce a number of beginners to the club, they have enjoyed the learning of the game, and fully appreciate what Butterfly Rock Golf Club has done for them, in the competitions and in meeting friendly golfers who live locally. Our next step along the line we have chosen is to introduce a monthly trophy competition, to date 4 members have offered trophies for this venture, and hopefully this will extend to 12, one per month, in the near future.
