Hua Hin Hash House Harriers
H2H3Run #87, 6 January 2007
The first run of the year for 2007 was intended to be Slackbladder's jihad victory run. He completed his contract in the Middle East and was returning to retirement in Hua Hin but stopped off in Hong Kong for Christmas and New Years and forgot to sober up in time to return to lay the trail. Never one to miss an opportunity to make up a good story, he called down on the telephone and said he was being held hostage by the Hong Kong tax authority and had to work as a stud in a Wanchai bordello for a week or so before coming home in order to pay off back taxes.
Another H2H3 member volunteered to set the run in the absence of Slackbladder and put a trail down just west of ‘The Same Dam Place' near Don Juan Pond. The pond had been the car park for at least three runs in 2006 but the area was geographically diverse enough to provide for many different trails over time. Our hare for the 1st run of 2007 put down shredded paper on Friday, just a day ahead of Hash Saturday.
On Saturday, after all of the hashers had arrived and after most had settled with Hash Cash, the hare called the hashers into a quick circle to tell them a bit about the trail they were about to follow. He showed the hashers a sample of the fresh shredded paper that they would be following and also showed them a sample of some old weathered shredded paper that they would also find on the trail and told them to just pretend it did not exist. The fact of the matter is that this lazy hare had actually followed on old trail, in reverse, laid by Long Ron and Melon Masher from back in October. As it turned out, it mattered not at all as the checks along the trail were quickly broken and the faster runners were back in the cooler lightening the load of Leo in a half an hour. In fact some of the walkers made it back to the car park in about the same amount of time but this was because they had short-cut the trail by about 50%. Within an hour of the start, all of the runners and the walkers were safely back in the car park with nobody lost along the way thanks to the clarity of the two trails set in two different years, in two different directions but leading to the same place.
The first run of the year for the H2H3 had a good showing with lots of regulars, several newcomers and some guests. Chrome Dome came to visit all the way from Afghanistan where he is involved in poppy production. We think he might have actually been drawn to recent advertisements of the Hua Cha Hash Pedalers but he denied knowing anything about that shadowy group. Chrome Dome had rendezvoused with blond Lucilia from Brazil who arrived in Bangkok a full day ahead of when she told him she would be there. When asked how she could have screwed up her arrival for a full day she said that only her hairdresser knows for sure. We also had Squeeky and Beep Beep visiting from the Rome , Italy hash. They had caught a lift with Hollow Legs and Cums First from Hua Hin and so they also lucked out by riding with him on the return to town for the On On after the hash. Terry Tallon ran his first H2H3 hash run and admitted to having not been on a hash in many years from when he used to run in Indonesia . We hope to see Terry on the trail again soon.
We did not see Mother Hen, aka Mommy Chick on this run and so we did not see Sparky, Spark Plug or any of our Chicken Coop regulars. Unfortunately, Mother Hen was in hospital for surgery. Good news is that she is doing fine and will be back in the Chicken Coop keeping the Chicks on the straight and narrow very soon. Hope to see all the Chicken Coop gang back on the trail next run.
During the circle and after the routine nonsense, Domestic Violence was called into the circle. Domestic Violence and her Boring English **** had volunteered to hare the 17 February run of the H2H3 and DV wanted to inform the Hash that the hares would be providing a free picnic buffet after the run in celebration of the first night of the Chinese New Years, Chok Dee and Kung Si Fat Tsai to Domestic Violence!!!
For connoisseurs of free food, this particular ethnic special will be a super treat!!
When the circle was finally closed and the cooler was empty of Leo, the H2H3 headed home or to their favourite pubs with the exception of a dozen or more who went to a really good Italian run restaurant recommended by Hollow Legs. Lots of cold beer went down the hatch there as well as some excellent food at local prices. Check out “Nino's” just north of the airport at the entrance of VIP Condo's. No doubt but that Nino will see us there again soon.
