Hua Hin Hash House Harriers

Run 89 was hared by Slackbladder and Poncho the Pervert in the realm of the Golden Bud. The car park for the start was a couple of K west of Petchkasem along Soi 6. The run was set to begin in a southerly direction crossing fields of brush and rubbish and excavations, the trail then turned in a westerly direction until it began to mount the hills overlooking Hua Hin. After we climbed a hill the trail then took a dip to an unexpected beer stop about halfway through the run. The hares had staged some cold beer and pop for the runners (the walkers had no chance as the booze was long gone by the time they arrived - Ha Ha) but it might have slowed the runners down a bit. From this point on the trail, after a sharp descent, the trail hugged the bottom of the hills and ran past a pond ringed with lotus blooms then On On to more beer for the Down Down. The sight provided a great view of Hua Hin and as the runners stood around waiting for the return of the walkers so that they could then start on the beer so as not to get an unfair advantage and drink more beer than their fair share (I am joking of course), the reality was the we runners quaff the beer as fast as possible in the hope of running out before the end of the Down Down thus imposing great embarrassment on the GM (Slackbladder in this case) this has never happened because if there were any likelihood of this the wily bastards would quickly bring the activities to an end and indicate the On On.

The trail had been well done with good checks to allow the slow runners to catch up with the sprinters, though there were some short cutters as usual, Quick Mickey Mow is fast getting a reputation for this and Hollow Legs was noted performing one which caused him to miss the impromptu beer stop, though he might have had an excuse as Comes First was way ahead of him, possibly on other things besides running. Little Cookie was an early finisher on her second H2H3 run, she is a flying machine possibly as a result of her 100+ runs with the Pattaya hash mob. Slackbladder, Ballbanger, 69 Forever, Long Ron, Old Macdonald, Richard and Da, Dave the Rave and Pinky all did well on the trail. Among the walkers who did not get lost in the dark and left to the tigers we had Mud Man and his bride along with Mud girl and the bay mud curtain climber. Virgins Keith and Ann walked the trail with us for the first time but we expect to see them again soon. Frank and Di were with us again and Di was once again equipped with ski poles, She had no skis but since she was shuffling along the sand on snowshoes we give her credit for being prepared for winter weather near Paradise City . We had Addy on the trail for his second run. Pinky, former GM of the Bangkok Monday Night has joined us for the first time since the Great Train Rumble in October. We hope to see him as a regular. I will run out of space if I try to list all of those who joined this hash, let us hope they all come back.

Once all the runners were back into the finish at the car park, we hit the Leo with gusto and after a while Slackbladder hit a couple of blasts on the hash horn and called the circle to order for the requisite nonsense. The circle lasted for about an hour, during which time all visitors and hash virgins were introduced and down downed. We christened outgoing hasher Joy Huss as ‘Joystick' and sadly said goodbye to her as she heads for the wastelands of Nebraska for a while. We had lots of fun during the nonsense of the circle with stupid jokes and silly songs that hashers seem to enjoy so much and then we closed the circle and headed for the ON ON at Soi 29 in Hua Hin. The ON ON was at a well-established karaoke place that Slackbladder spends each evening in trying to learn new songs when his bride is out of town. The food was on a par with the singing but the singers made the visit a memorable stop.

Guilty scribes - Ballbanger and 69 Forever. Ballbanger returns to the New World for a month or so to carry on his traitorous relationship with the enemy of the British Empire - born a Canadian he renegaded to the American Navy - there is a spot reserved for him in the Tower.

Hua Hin Pool League

The 9-Ball competition will have finished, and the new 8-ball season will have started by the time this issue comes out, so please check with your team or the organisers regarding fixtures and final standings. Below are the most up to date tables available at time of going to print.

Another 9-Ball tournament will he held between the top two teams of each league, and a cup, in memory of Björn Lindblad, who was killed in a tragic accident after a pool match on the night of Wednesday 7th February, will be awarded to the winning team after every 9-Ball season from now onwards. His individual scores have deliberately been left in the list in his memory. Björn will be missed by all of us.

The 9-Ball individuals' tournament will be held in late March or early April. Here is a brief description of the format.

Day 1: The top sixteen of each league will play a best of three racks play off in a knockout to produce eight finalists. Each league will play at a venue in their own league.

Day 2: Those finalists will then go on to the first round of the finals where both leagues will compete together. This round will be a best of five racks knockout.

Day 3: The remaining 8 will play a best of seven racks quarter final and a best of nine racks semi final and a best of eleven racks final.

The qualifying ladies will have a one-day knockout tournament.
