Hua Hin Hash House Harriers
28 April: Scotch Tape hared the 28 April run west of Hua Hin off of Soi 88 before taking off for the UK hot on the heels of Old Macdonald and Quick Mickey Mou.
As a solo hare, Scotch Tape put down a great trail in an area not run before. We hope he gets back to Thailand very soon.
12 May: Long Ron and Melon Masher recce'd a trail in and around Cha Am Forest Park. On Tuesday they did another complete recce of the trail and on Friday they went thru it again, putting down the shredded paper and the checks. On Friday evening the rain washed away all evidence of their efforts and so they put down a brand new trail on Saturday, finishing up just before the start of the run. Run time at 5:pm found the runners and the walkers chasing a brand new trail that went along Petchkasem Road toward Hua Hin for a while and then turned west through the brush to the railroad tracks for a turn to the north through the woods and the weeds and along the tracks and the bovine trail markers to the far north of Forest Park and then a course change back to the car park. As this run was to be Slackbladder's and as the circle was to be Slackbladder's, we kept the run short and dispensed with the circle entirely since Slackbladder was nowhere around. We hear rumours that his wife will let him return in time for the Betty Boop run in Pattaya and hope he joins us for that incredibly fantastic nonsense.
BETTY BOOP RUN. On Monday, the 4th of June the Pattaya Hash will host their annual “Betty Boop” run. Everyone running this run dresses like girls. Even the girls! This is a chance for casual cross dressers to come out of the closet and have a bit of fun. Several H2H3 hashers will be going to Pattaya on Sunday the 3rd and returning to Hua Hin on Tuesday the 5th. There will be a beauty contest after the run to determine the prettiest and sexiest guy dressed like a girl. Prizes include a night at Tiffany's and much much more.
Join us.
On the 23rd of June the H2H3 will host the Pattaya Hash House Harriers for some hash run fun and routine nonsense. We hope that all H2H3 hashers participate in welcoming the Pattaya Hashers.
On the 30th of June the Cha Am Hash House Harriers host a special run at the Wild Animal Rescue Centre just a little north and west of Cha Am. This will be a great opportunity to visit the centre and enjoy some hash fun too.
For more info on this run, go to www.cha-am-hhh.com or call Hollow Legs at 0879323327
A brief on the centre:
“The Wild Animal Rescue Centre is located behind Kao Look Chang Temple in the Petchaburi province, approximately 160 kilometres south of Bangkok . This sanctuary is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of wild animals previously exploited as pets or used for profit within the tourist industry. Most of the animals residing at our sanctuary were maltreated before they arrived here, suffering from abuse, malnutrition, neglect and improper care. Many of the animals arrive with permanent disabilities and hence, cannot be returned to the wild. Our mission is to give these animals the best quality of life possible in captivity, whether here or at any other sanctuary. We've completed construction of seven gibbon islands, allowing the gibbons to move about freely, to establish territories and mates, and to live a life as close as possible to a life in the wild. Fundraising for a next even bigger island is in the works but we need your help to make this happen!”
22 Sept -1 October: Border-to-Border Hash Expeditionary Challenge
This first-time-ever event involves a hash challenge that will begin at the Burma Border and end at the Cambodian Border. It is to be hosted by the Hua Hin Hash House Harriers (H2H3) and the Hua Cha Hash Pedalers, the local biking hash. If you can ride a bicycle and if you can walk without tripping over your feet, you should be able to succeed. None But The Strong Survive. Everyone is welcome to join us in this event, 8 to 80, blind, cripple or crazy. “If you have half a mind to join the Hash, that's all you need”

Biking Tours
Sea Hill Mountain Biking is offering a range of fascinating and enjoyable bicycle rides around the beautiful area of Hua Hin. They are a small independent company formed in March 2007 to offer visitors to Hua Hin an unforgettable biking experience. If you visit here we think it's essential that you visit the diverse, attractive coastal area and captivating national parks, and Sea Hill MTB can help you do just that!
They get off the beaten-path to witness how people live among the coconut groves and fishing villages dotted along their cycling routes. Whether you're a serious cyclist or just enjoy a relaxing form of exercise, Sea Hill MTB offers something for all levels of fitness.
The operation was founded by Paul and Susan Mason, originally from England but now living in the wonderful kingdom of Thailand just outside of Hua Hin, and they offer tours on a daily basis. Currently there are four on offer with more to come. These include the Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park , Dolphin Bay and Khao Kalok, and the pretty coves of Pranburi, Sai Noi and Khao Tao.
Sea Hill MTB takes the safety, planning and preparation of the rides very seriously, and all the bikes are cleaned, checked and lubricated after every single ride. They are taken to a professional bike shop in Hua Hin on a regular basis for a full maintenance check, and any parts that are showing signs of wear are replaced...before they go!
The company provide state-of- the-art equipment, fully serviced and maintained including proper helmets and clean water bottles. Your adventure tour is on the latest 2007 specification TREK 6000 mountain bikes, which are high quality and durable, boasting excellent components including hydraulic disk brakes, which will cope with the most demanding roads and ‘stop you on a sixpence'. Paul Mason, Director and founder of the company says, “Even on our road trips around Hua Hin the surface can often be potholed, so these Trek mountain bikes are the ideal ride. They also have enough gears (27) to cope with the most challenging climbs.”
Their experience in running tours and knowledge of the local environment enables them to minimize risks and dangers. They insist all clients wear good-quality helmets and understand the rules of the road by presenting a safety briefing before each tour. A first aid kit is also carried in the support vehicle that tracks the riders throughout the ride.
The prices for each trip are featured on their website at www.seahillmtb.com and range from 1,300 to 1,980 baht. These are fully inclusive prices and include bike hire, helmets (which must be worn for your safety), collection and return from and to your hotel or residence, free fruit, water and soft drinks all day and all entrance fees. They also provide a Thai lunch at the end of the tour, and are currently offering a free bespoke T-shirt for the first 100 customers!
Sea Hill MTB is licensed with the Tourism Authority of Thailand; licence no. 12/1133.

Karting Krazy!
Steve started his Karting career the day we arrived in Thailand on 4 September 2005.
His new 4-stroke Kart was waiting for him at the Kart track in Hua Hin; Joe Smith (RIP) had arranged everything so Steve's Kart was ready and waiting. He could not wait to start to race with it, and so he did almost everyday until December 2005 when Joe and Steve decided that there was no more challenge for him in his 4- stroke Kart and the time was right to let him get a step higher by letting him drive a 2-stroke Kart. The Kart he has now can reach a speed of about 85 km/h on average and on the straight parts of the track his kart will do 130 km/h.
On a 700-metre track like the one in Hua Hin, the lap record is around 31 seconds; the track in Hua Hin is called “Go Kart Hua Hin”. The track has a new Director named Neil Heron, who is very passionate about karting and has managed to form a large group of 2-stroke drivers that are practising on his track.
Steve got his first new 2-stroke kart on the 2nd of January 2006, and on the 15th of that same month he started his first real racing career for the 2006 season in The Thai National Championship. In the beginning, it was really hard to catch up with all of the experienced racers, but quite soon Steve managed to keep a steady position in the top 5. He ended the last race of the season in 2006 in third place. However, later he heard he was disqualified because he came in underweight by 200 grams. After a race the Kart and the driver should weigh 145 kg, but still it's quite rare for a new driver to catch up with the rest in such a small period of time.
Last year Steve also joined a race in Japan , which was sponsored by Rotax (Kart engines), and although he did not win, he managed to set the fastest Lap time during a race in the wet. This year Steve will race in Macau , Japan , and if he is holding 1st position after the fifth race he will go to Dubai , but this will be very hard to achieve, because there are a lot of good drivers in the top 5. The boy who is currently holding 1st position at the moment is very experienced and has been karting for at least 7 years already. He has also raced in many races abroad as well. But everything is possible, so you never know.
The 2007 Kart season has started already and Steve has already competed in 2 races. He is currently holding second position now, but there are many good drivers in Thailand so it won't be easy. A lot of his free time is spent on the track in Hua Hin or the track at Birah, near Pattaya, which has a length of 1200 metres; on both tracks he practises with a 2-stroke Kart.
In Pattaya he is a member of the Prosport Karting Team, managed by Mike Rod, who has a lifetime of experience and who knows all the ins and outs of Karting. He is the one that teaches Steve a lot about Karting as well how to control your emotions, which can run very high if another driver crashes into you making you lose your position.
