Hash Run # 35 Saturday 8 April 2003 Hares: Oxygen & Wan
Cha-am Run
Instructions were pretty straightforward….."Head to Cha-am traffic light (only one in town), head to the beach, turn right at junction and straight on until end of the road". What we did not bargain for was everybody in town and out of towners were already clamping for their favorite spot at Cha-am beach, so did the Hash. The Hares have chosen the perfect spot at the end of the road, far from the maddening crowd, under some casuarinas trees and a stone throw away from the beach.
At 5:05 pm the pack of 10 runners with regulars Doug, Tom, Poo, Terry, May and Jit, who bought her extended family, and guest - Brian, were shooed off by the Hares.
We headed a short distance on the main beach road before turning left towards the housing estate. A couple of false trail and back check kept the front runners busy while the Hares sweeping from behind, sneaked up on us and shouted On On in another direction. Off the road and into the sandy open land, with shrubs sprouting sparsely, the paper trail continued to a clearing behind some townhouses. We headed for another deserted housing estate which brought us out onto the main road. By then the Hare, Oxygen, was all red-faced and panting away to keep up with the front pack. In fact, this is the first time we see him running!
More checks on the main road and across a field of tall grasses before we headed to the entrance-way of a tall condominium block. Pass the condominium and into the private compound of some beach cottages before we reached the beach-front. On home was half a km down the sandy beach. FROP, Doug and Brian led the way followed by Tom and Terry.
The circle was called before dark, with on downs to the Hares - Oxygen and Wan, guest - Brian, returnee - Terry, and Jit, for keeping an eye on Tom showering. Hash souvenirs were given out to our regular young runners who inspired the senior hashers. On On was at Jit's, Chicken Coop. The usual good food and cool beer kept the fellowship going. Pimpa joined us after dinner proclaiming she was indispensable at the office.
Next run, Saturday, 10th May.

SNIPERS, POOL LEAGUE CHAMPS RUNNERS-UP: U-TURN

U-Turn secured their runners-up position by beating Bamboo Grove 8-4. The Champions, Snipers, beat Rainbow with same numbers. Jungle Juice lost their chances to be number two with their 3-9 loss against Sawan. Sabai and Thai Girls shared the points 6-6. With two postponed games left to play, the focus now moves to the cup tournament and then to top 16 tournament. Peter (Snipers) is a hot favourite but has many contenders who can upset him.

Jay's go three points clear
Jay's Jousters moved a step closer to championship with their whitewashing of Bull's Eyes. Their nearest rivals, Bamboo Grove were defeated by Billy's Bulls Eyes 7-3. Jay's are now three points clear with their destiny in their own hands. Beachcomber won the cellar battle 7-3 leaving Romantique Bar still without a win. Top 16 fight is very tight with Doug, John, Osmo and Mike within ten points from each other.

4th SPANISH AT CATALUNYA
Course Details: Circuit length: 4.728 km, No of laps: 65, Race distance: 307.125 km, Lap record: M Schumacher, Ferrari, 2002, 1min 20.355
History - One of the most advanced circuits on the grand prix calendar, the Circuit de Catalunya is modern but also has character. There are a variety of corners, a short straight and a long pit straight.
The circuit was first used in 1991 and was also the centre piece of Spain's Olympic year in 1992.
The circuit and its facilities are constantly upgraded by progressive management. Last year enlarged run off areas were built at several locations, together with a modification at Nissan.
Demanding fast corners and a long high-speed straight makes this a real test.
18th AUSTRIAN AT ZELTWEG
Course Details: Circuit length: 4.319 km, No of laps: 71, Race distance: 306.578 km
Lap record: Michael Schumacher, Ferrari, 2002, 1min 09.298
History - Austria has hosted 19 World Championship races, the first in 1964 at Zeltweg, followed by 18 continuous years at the Osterreichring. The latter lost its major events after the 1987 Grand Prix. Since then the Osterreichring has been transformed into the A-1 Ring at a cost of around £17.5million.
An interesting circuit with both slow and fast corners and several long straights to make for interesting action.
